After a 82-day war of attrition that Syria started across the cease-fire line in the Golan, US brokered a disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel. According to the agreement, Israel withdraw from a strip of land that included the main city of Quneitra. UN forces were deployed in a buffer zone between Syrian and Israeli troops.
