Jabri, Shafiq (1890-1980): Syrian writer and poet. Born and educated in Damascus. He left to Palestine and returned to Syria after the end of World War I. He was appointed secretary of the Ministry of Education in the government of King Faisal I. He headed the Higher School of Literature then became the dean of the Faculty of Literature at the University of Damascus. In 1926, he was elected a member of the Arab Scientific Assemblage in Damascus.
