Kahaleh, Habib (1898-1965): Syrian journalist and satiric writer. Born in Damascus. He studied in Damascus and the American University of Beirut. He issued his first newspaper, Souriyah al-Jadida (New Syria) in 1918. In 1929, he issued his most famous Al-Modhek Al-Mobki (The Laughable-Grievous), a political satiric magazine that he continued to publish for 37 years. He also published Dimashq (Damascus) daily paper. In the same year, he was elected a Member of Parliament.
