
Kuzbari, Maamoun al- (1918-1998), Syrian politician. Born in Damascus. A graduate from St. Joseph's College in Beirut, he worked as a law proffessor in Damascus University since 1943. Adib al-Shishakli appointed him Master Speaker in 1951. When Shishakli was overthrown in 1954, Kuzbari appointed himself President, but was also overhtrown. He became Prime Minister after the the breakup of union with Egypt in 1961. When the Baath Party seized power in 1963, he moved to his exile in Morocco, working again as a university proffessor. He retired in 1989.
