Damask: The name applied to patterened textile produced in Damascus in the Middle Ages. True Damask was originally wholly silk but the name has been applied to a certain type to patterened fabric regardless of fiber. Damask was introduced to Europe by the Crusaders during the 11th century, and the weaving of this fabric became common in France and other European countries in the 13th century.
