Arab Revolt: The uprising by the Sherif of Mecca and his son against the Turkish Ottomans in June 1916. With British help under T.E.Lawrence, the revolt's army took Mecca and Aqaba. Later the Arab guerillas sabotaged the Hejaz railway between Mecca and Damascus, which was a Turkish supply route. In 1917, they advanced with General Allenby into Jordan and Palestine and in 1918, they captured Damascus. They setup an Arab government in Damascus under King Faisal I, son of Sharif Hussein of Mecca.
