
Franco-Syrian Treaty of 1936, or the Franco-Syrian Treaty of Friendship and Alliance. An agreement that the French mandate over Syria would end within three years, signed in Paris by Syrian and French representatives. The treaty also stated that Syria is an independent republic and maintaned the individuality of Lebanon, but kept French military presence on the Syrian territory so France continued to influence the Syrian politics.
